Registration notes: The colours in this tartan were inspired by the alpine scenery and lakes seen within the Glacier National Park. Glacier National Park was established May 11, 1910, and became America’s 10th National Park. The photo that inspired the creation of this tartan was of Mount Grinnell, named after George Bird Grinnell, an influential leader that pushed for the creation of the National Park in the late 1800s. The threadcount incorporates the date the Park was established. Colours: light and dark grey are intended to represent the Glacier-carved mountains of which there are 26 glaciers within the park, all shrinking in size; white is for the snow-covered mountains, the Glacier has 175 mountains, the highest being Mt. Cleveland at 10,448 ft; turquoise is for the appearance of the rivers and lakes due to the finely ground sediment called Glacier flour. The park has a total of 762 lakes, of which only 131 of them are named, and there are 563 streams or rivers within the park.
