Registration notes: This tartan was designed especially for The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh. Taking inspiration from the rich heritage of the hotel, the design is intended to reflect The Balmoral Hotel’s unique story. The 120 blue threads depict the 120th year of the hotel. The famous clock overlooking Waverley railway station that runs three minutes early to prevent people missing their trains, is represented by the three pale green checks. The central blocks of 25 green threads within the design symbolise the 25th anniversary of Rocco Forte Hotels. With family at the heart of The Balmoral Hotel, the two sandy grey checks represent Sir Rocco Forte, Chairman, and his sister Olga Polizzi, Director of Design. The soft pink threads represent Sir Rocco’s three children. The cherry blossoms that line Princes Street in spring are depicted in the pink and white, the pale blue reflects the city on a sunny spring day and the grey represents the sandstone which most buildings in Edinburgh are made from, including The Balmoral Hotel.
Woven Sample: A woven sample of this tartan has been received by the Scottish Register of Tartans for permanent preservation in the National Records of Scotland.
