Registration notes: The tartan commemorates the life of the designer’s dear mother, celebrated Scottish artist Sheena Christie (12.4.45 – 23.5.22), inspired by her love for spring-time daffodils & her favourite colours, purple & lilac. It intends to depict the daffodil with shades between the purple & yellow representing the withering flower, a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of life. Registered on the date of internment it celebrates her life, but also is a reminder to cherish time spent together. The purple also alludes to her faith and the special significance in the meaning of her name: Sheena, ‘God is Gracious’; & Christie, ‘follower of Christ’. Yellow on purple is a nod to the painting Sheena was most proud of – her portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother – which is displayed in Arbroath Infirmary, where she spent her last days with her family. The thread-count includes: the age she gave birth, 24, & her son’s birth year, 1969; also the age the designer lost his mother, at 52.
