As well as providing a national repository of tartan
designs, the Scottish Register of Tartans website includes links to other
government and tartan industry information sources that may provide further
useful background information in promoting the tartan industry in Scotland.
Once you have used these links to leave this site, you should note that the
National Archives of Scotland does not have any control over the availability,
design or content of external websites.
Scottish Enterprise have a Scottish textiles supplier directory. This directory
contains details of many different types of textiles-related companies, from
designers and fashion consultants to manufacturers and retailers. They all work
for an industry that produces innovative fabrics, garments and accessories for
the fashion and technical markets around the world.
The Scottish Tartans Authority are a registered
Scottish Charity with the major objective of promoting a deeper knowledge of
Scottish Tartans, their origins, manufacture, use, history and development and
they study, record and stimulate research on the subject.
The Scottish Tartans World Register aimed to provide a
'Public' place where tartans could be displayed and examined. Give support to
any educational endeavour free of charge. Provide the services of, design,
adaptations, and identification, whilst giving general tartan information and
advice to inquirers.
The
National Archives of Scotland (NAS) is an agency of the
Scottish Government which exists to select, preserve, and make
available the national archives of Scotland in whatever medium, to the highest
standards; to promote the growth and maintenance of proper archive provision
throughout the country; and to lead the development of archival practice in
Scotland. The NAS is responsible for administering and running the Scottish
Register of Tartans.
