The design uses colours of significance to the family: green is intended to represent the lush grass of Cornamucklagh, County Tyrone, Ireland; brown the soil; yellow represents the crops and the farming tradition that runs through the family ancestry; purple represents the heather and blue symbolises where the Rivers Tweed and Teviot meet near the family home - Oakfield Farm, Kelso, Scotland.
