Registration notes:	This design is the winning entry from a competition organised by the St Andrew-Caledonian Society of Calgary. The design was based on Wilson's No. 152. Wilsons of Bannockburn a weaving firm founded c1770 near Stirling. The Pattern books are in the National Museums Scotland, Edinburgh. Colours: red is associated with many of Calgary's teams, the Calgary Stampede and its Stampede Showband; blue represents the Bow and Elbow rivers on which Calgary was founded; yellow symbolises the prairie wheatfields to the east; grey represents the Rocky Mountains to the west; black is for the gas and oil industry; and white represents Calgary's pride in and symbolism of the white stetson and the White Hatter Awards. The tartan is regarded as an official and registered symbol of the City of Calgary that any person can wear any way they choose, whenever and wherever they like. The Society is the registered owner of the Calgary tartan and is responsible for its management and promotion. The tartan was launched on 3 August 2003 on Prince's Island during the Heritage Day Opening Ceremonies. The winning designer, Donna Buie of Cochrane AB, was presented with a copy of the registration, a sash and tie in the new tartan, and a cheque for $1,000.
