Registration notes: The Army Air Corps Tartan celebrates all past and present personnel and achievements attached to the Army Air Corps since its formation. The Army Air Corps (AAC) is the combat aviation arm of the British Army. Recognisable by their distinctive ‘Sky Blue’ berets. The Army Air Corps was formed in 1957 on the foundations of the Glider Pilot Regiment and the Air Observation Post Squadrons of the Royal Artillery and Royal Air Force. Since then, they have watched over the UK and taken part in combat operations across the world. The Army Air Corps Tartan features the principal colours of the Army Air Corps. Being a Dark Blue and a Sky Blue which are historically known as Oxford and Cambridge Blue. The Red symbolises ‘Infantry’. As during WWII the troops were trained to jump out of aircraft to fight and also as Glider Pilots who then fought as infantry soldiers after landing. Black is for continual respect for all fallen Army Air Corps comrades.
