Registration notes: On October 28th, 1983 the Board of Governors of University College of Cape Breton (now Cape Breton University) passed the motion to adopt Patsy MacMullin's proposed tartan as the official tartan for the University. The tartan is based upon the school colours of orange and green with the addition of white. The four orange squares in the design represent the four counties of Cape Breton Island, Canada.
