Registration notes: Based on the 1842 Johnston tartan from the Vestiarium Scoticum to represent the Brim-DeForest's ancestral links to the Johnston Clan. The tartan was designed for the first of the name Brim-DeForest: Brady Brim-DeForest of Balvaird Castle. The tartan is for use by all members of the Brim-DeForest family and those that bear the surname. To mark the great interest in cartography of Brim-DeForest of Balvaird, the dark red squares comprise 56 threads - the northern latitude of the family seat at Balvaird Castle in Perthshire. Its longitude west is represented by the three gold lines on that same red. The ancient DeForest connection with France is shown by the French flag - the Tricolour - whose colours are also in the Brim-DeForest coat of arms (with gold) and the Stars and Stripes of the Brim-DeForest’s home country. The thin pink lines are for Brady and Jessica's daughter, Hypatia.
