Registration notes: Designed by Margi Lawson, Tartan Manor Ltd. This tartan celebrates all past, present and future personnel and achievements attached to the British Airborne Forces. From its original formation in 1940 by Sir Winston Churchill during WWII, to present day Airborne Soldiers of the 16 Air Assault Brigade. The colours burgundy and light blue (known historically as ‘claret and Cambridge blue’) represent the iconic British Airborne Forces ‘Pegasus Flash’. The Pegasus Flash features ‘the slayer of enemies’ Bellerophon astride his winged steed Pegasus, originally introduced by General ‘Boy’ Browning in 1941/1942. The Pegasus, was an inclusive symbol, worn by parachute and glider formations in WWII. It was reintroduced in November 2015, Pegasus continues to represent all of the British Airborne Forces. Every man and woman in 16 Air Assault Brigade is an Airborne soldier, regardless of their cap-badge, whether they are delivered by parachute, air-landing or ground manoeuvre. From the age of mythology, with a reputation forged from the sacrifices of modern airborne warriors from 1940 onwards, it is recognised internationally as the defining symbol of British Airborne Forces. White signifies the parachute chords. Black is for continual respect for all fallen British Airborne Forces comrades.
