Registration notes: Based on the Royal Stewart, this tartan encapsulates some of the symbols and sentiments that have kept The People's Friend a welcome visitor in so many homes around the world for almost 150 years. The bright red and white band represents the magazine's masthead whilst the adjoining grey celebrates Dundee - its city of origin on the northern bank of the ‘Silvery Tay’. The light blue and yellow are delicate pastels always seen in the historic cover illustrations of J Campbell Kerr and yellow, of course, is also the colour of friendship. The five pink lines on blue are for the five continents where your People's Friend is read each week and the sixteen tiny squares formed by them, mark the number of pages in the very first issue of the Friend back in 1869. Finally, the Royal Stewart symbolises the love and respect which Friend readers have so often extended towards our Royal Family.
