Registration notes: The designer has traced his Scottish ancestors back to the 1500s and as the last of his direct line, created this tartan to honour his family. The colours used are all contained in the ribbons of the war medals inherited from his grandfather and they also symbolise the journey and sadness leaving family in Scotland to emigrate (black for sadness, red for family/bloodline, white for the snow, blue for the sky and sea and yellow and green for sun, sand and fields.) The blue and white and green and yellow also representative the flags of Scotland and Australia. The tartan is representative of the designer’s passion for history, family, the natural elements of his birthplace and adopted country and traditions.
