Tartan Details - Edinburgh International Film Festival

The information held within The Scottish Register of Tartans for the "Edinburgh International Film Festival" tartan is shown below.

Reference: 11515
Designer: Edinburgh International Film Festival
Tartan date: 24/03/2016
Registration date: 21 April 2016
Category: Commemorative
Restrictions: Yes. This tartan may not be woven or produced in any form without written consent from EIFF.

Registration notes: Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is the world’s longest continually running film festival, and in 2016 celebrates its landmark 70th edition. By way of commemoration, EIFF has collaborated with Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) and Bute Fabrics to create a bespoke, unique tartan which represents key elements pertaining to the festival and its long-standing cultural heritage, as well as celebrating the Scottish roots of an internationally renowned and respected institution. Incorporating the red, black and white of the EIFF logo, the colour, form and structure of the tartan also assimilates the elements below: The aspect ratio of 70mm film, serving as a commemoration of our landmark 70th edition while also representing our commitment to the heritage, artistic integrity and technical skill of cinema exhibition and projection. The vertical white broken weave represents the perforations of film stock. The asymmetry of the black rectangular frame is reminiscent of the cinema screen. The vertical red weave juxtaposed with the black rectangular frame is reminiscent of traditional red velvet cinema tabs framing the cinema screen. The pattern in repeat is reminiscent of strips of film. The two tone gold represents the light emitted from a projector.
