Tartan Details - Lock in Northumberland

The information held within The Scottish Register of Tartans for the "Lock in Northumberland" tartan is shown below.

Reference: 10445
Designer: Lock, Ben
Tartan date: 25/05/2011
Registration date: 23 June 2011
Category: Name
Restrictions: Yes. The tartan may be worn by those who can trace a direct blood relationship back to Alfred Edward Lock (1887-1935), whether male or female (and their descendants and adoptees), plus their spouses or partners (and their descendants and adoptees) for as long as the relationship continues.

If worn as a kilt, the garment should be constructed with a military pleat to the blue stripe bordered by white. Accessories should bear the 'Northumberland cross' motif.

Registration notes: This tartan uses claret and blue to represent the West Ham district of London (recalling the strip of the local football club) in honour of the family's origins. There are small sections of black and white to recall the Northumberland tartan as the family has relocated to Longhoughton and has subsequently become involved in the affairs of this ancient county. The scarlet in the design recalls the Lock blood that binds the family together.
